international students Bogomolets National Medical University, Ukraine promises
an environment feel welcome, supported and well-guided. Established
in 1841, NMU widely conducts activities like student exchange programs,
internships, seminars and international projects in partnership with
educational institutions abroad which includes the European Regional Office of
WHO, the European Association of Public Health, the Federation of healthcare
facilities in France, the Agency for International Development (USA), the
German Agency DAAD, Inter-University Centre for Science and co-operation
Eastern and South-Eastern Europe.
One of the unique features
of NMU is that it is the oldest university in Ukraine to introduce an
internship programs specifically for international students, providing them
with an opportunity to come out of the university as skilled, trained and
excellent clinicians before they graduate.

excerpts from the Interview
Q: What is the strength of the
International student community in the university? What about Indian students?
A: O.O.Bogomolets National
Medical University welcomes thousands of international students from many
different backgrounds each year and enjoys celebrating the different cultures,
languages and diversity they bring. There are currently over 13,000 students
engaged in studies at NMU, of which about 1500+ are students from India.
NMU regularly celebrates
its diversity through cultural events and activities on campus. For example,
the Holi Festival is celebrated on campus by NMU students and staff annually
and involves traditional Indian food, dance and interactive activities. As a
university with international outlook, NMU prides itself on the achievements of
our many international students and we do what we can to make NMU a place where
international students feel welcome and supported.
Q: What is
unique about your university in terms of academic culture and overall student
experience?
A: O.O.Bogomolets National Medical
University is the only university in Ukraine which has a registered membership
with Consortium of Universities for Global Health (CUGH) which builds
interdisciplinary collaborations and assists members in sharing their expertise
across education, research and service. NMU Co founded CIRCEOS Programs and has
a partnership in conducting 43 international programs like ERASMUS MUNDUS, TEMPUS
and MUMEENA.
In the academic sphere,
NMU puts a premium on practical studying approaches and work experience. Doctor
of medicine O.P. Walter, professor, one of founders and heads at department of
anatomy of NMU (1844-1868) was the first who proved the influence of
sympathetic nerves on the blood vessel’s tone.
Professor V.O. Betz, head
at department of anatomy (1868-1890), pupil of O.P. Walter, first described the
giant cells of brain cortex (world-known as Betz cells), his unique collections
of brain specimens (8,000 units) was honored in Vienna at World exhibition at
1873.
Q: What are some of the
popular programmes among students? What about Indian students?
A: Students who attend NMU have
access to a wide variety of 10 full time courses which are: Faculty of General
Medicine, Faculty of Stomatology and Faculty of Pharmacy. While we have
numerous popular programs across the university’s three faculties, the most
popular courses (at both the bachelor’s and master’s level) are in:

Indian students are
studying at the faculty of General Medicine in English. Many Indian Students
are studying from different states of India.
Mr. Chetan Pawar is the
current second year student at the Faculty of General Medicine English at
O.O.Bogomolets National Medical University taught program. He comes from the
famous city of Bangalore in India and is a very important part of Indian
student organization at our university.
